More than 3000 pink-shirted people were pounding the streets of Bayonne participating in Odyssea Bayonne to raise funds to support the fight against breast cancer. Their route seemed to take them through most of the streets of the old town as we wound our way through them to reach the river.
The skies were overcast but it was fine as we sped along the river path to the town of Urt. Simon was hailed by the Police as we crested the hill into town – he was told that stop signs are for everyone – then allowed to continue. It had started drizzling as we sat down to enjoy our for morning tea – pain au chocolat from the boulangerie and coffee made under the shelter of the tourist information centre. I took the opportunity to make an Easter call home.
The rain worsened and it was a wet ride along the river. It was reasonably flat and we were making good time so decided to have lunch once we had checked into our apartment in Dax. Amazingly our wet weather gear had been really effective but despite my sealskin socks, my feet were freezing. It was a relief to change into warm clothes and settle in for a late lunch and a big cup of tea. As we had leftovers for dinner, we could enjoy watching the rain whilst staying warm and dry inside. Dax may have been an interesting town but we decided we didn’t need to see it in the rain.
