The skies were showing signs of blue when we left and it was easy riding through small villages, each defined by their church. Easter Monday is a public holiday in France and the roads were quiet. We had done some research to find a boulangerie that was open and at Pontonx Sur L’Adour we stopped to pick up some morning tea and found a place to enjoy a morning coffee. The aeropress has been getting a good workout! We have yet to try French coffee.
The undulating route was largely on quiet country roads and we had lunch in a park at Meilhan. We picked up a cycle path that passed near a murky looking dam with a surprisingly white sand beach and it was a nice ride into Mont-de-Marsan. As an added bonus our accommodation featured a Futsal table.
Once our washing was done, we set out to explore. I had downloaded a walking route that took us through some of the highlights of the town. This included the Musée Despiau-Wierick, a sculpture museum that was closed due to extensive renovations. However, there were lots of sculptures to be found around the town.
La Plongeuse was the most impressive, with the diver poised above the Midou River. The Douze and the Midou Rivers converged to form the Midouze River – a perfect spot for an afternoon beer.
