As today was a 90+km transition day, we were up and out just before 8:30 to ensure we had plenty of time for rest stops along the way. It was a beautiful morning and we were a little sad to leave behind the gorgeous Wisteria Cottage with its lovely gardens.
It was easy riding under blue skies with a slight tail wind.- perfect riding conditions. We had a few kilometres on the Bussell Highway which was a little busy before turning onto quieter back roads. At around 20kms we turned onto the Brockman Highway which would take us all the way to Nannup. It was fairly quiet with traffic mainly consisting of occasional trucks, caravans and motorhomes but they all gave us a wide berth.
We took a detour off the highway down to Alexandra Bridge camping area for our morning coffee stop. It was a lovely location on the Blackwood River and would have made a nice base for touring the local area.
Back on the highway we agreed to stop every 10kms or so for a quick rest break and were determined to cover around 2/3 of the distance before our lunch stop. Simon spotted a likely rest area, but it was a little too soon, so I suggested we press on. As we neared 60kms we came to a picnic area, complete with toilets and picnic tables - a perfect cycling oasis and the ideal time for a lunch break.
The road had been gently undulating but we had a few hills to climb before we finally reached Nannup and checked into our Airbnb. We wandered down to the nearby Nanna’s Pantry which had good icecream according to the reviews and the girl behind the counter kindly decanted scoops into a coffee cup that we could store in our freezer for dinner.
Our next stop was the Nannup Brewing Company, passing the local arachnid on the way, for some excellent local beer and an equally good garlic pizza entree before retuning to our accommodation for showers and dinner
