Sydney to Devon

Thursday 13th March

Sydney - Devon

It was worth the price (or points) paid for premium economy as we were able to get a reasonable sleep.  The plane departed on time, but we were delayed at Singapore as we had to ensure that we didn’t arrive at Heathrow before the curfew was lifted at 6am.  We took the time to wander Singapore airport then discovered that we couldn’t open our boarding passes on our phones despite access to the airport wifi. We cut short our meander and joined the security queue to enter the gate which required us to show our boarding pass.  After a few attempts to explain our problem, the security screening staff took our passports and returned with printed passes meaning that we could progress through screening.  Note to self to get a paper pass next time.

The plane landed soon after 6am and we sped through immigration which was a single step process and much more efficient than in Australia.  Bikes and bags were soon retrieved, and we made our way to the Central bus station for a long wait for the 9:30am bus to Exeter.  The coffee shop was doing a roaring trade, and we waited a long time for our coffees only to discover they had been collected by another couple.  The coffees, when they finally arrived, were strong and hit the spot.

I wandered the limited pathways for the next hour or so, discovering a chapel and memorial garden in the midst of the airport roadways and parking lots.  The bus trip was uneventful, and Graham met us at the bus station.  We enjoyed the drive through the backroads and laneways to Butterleigh and it was lovely to arrive at Sunrise with its views over the fields.

Georgie was there to meet us, and we were soon settled in for a delicious soup for lunch. We met the cats, Maggs and Ashes.  A brisk walk with the three Jack Russells - Cadi, Sticky and Smudge - helped keep us awake and we managed to stay up till about 9:30 before heading to bed.
