Let the cycling begin…

Sunday 6th April

Devon to Plymouth

It was a glorious morning as I joined Georgie for a final English walk along the local laneways with the dogs.  Spring was definitely in the air as illustrated by the greening of the hedgerows, finally proof for Simon that Devon hedges were not all dead after his third winter/early spring visit. We walked back through the fields that we had crossed the day we arrived under perfect blue skies.

After a call to Australia to coincide with Sunday night’s dinner, we enjoyed our first English fry up with pork and leek sausages and perfectly crispy bacon.  A late brunch meant there was no need for lunch as we packed the panniers in the car and Graham drove us down to Plymouth for the ferry to Santander.

It was exciting to be back on fully laden bikes and we moved quickly through check in and passport control and we soon had the bikes safely secured on the car deck.  With two hours till departure, we dumped our bags in our tiny cabin and walked each floor of the ferry in search of the perfect spot to settle in with a cup of tea.

At wine o’clock we had some Devon crisps and “Leaders tea” from the thermos (as we were unsure whether BYO was allowed) followed by dinner from the self service restaurant which was surprisingly nice.
