Revisiting old haunts

Saturday 22nd March

Exeter Exmouth

Georgie was working and Graham was doing further quiz preparation so we decided to park at Darts Farm and ride to Exmouth, an easy ride along a dedicated bike path. There were quite a few people out and it was pleasant riding with views of the railway line, River Exe and the estuary.  We followed the foreshore at Exmouth and stopped for coffee and an early pasty for lunch with views over the beach.

We dropped into Darts Farm to buy some snacks for the quiz, Sunrise muesli for Georgie (given its name) and some chocolate as a gift for Kathy.

It was a slow trip into Exeter and took ages to find parking, so it was a quick visit to Seasalt to see Georgie and admire the range of clothes on display.  It was tempting to try on one of the lovely dresses, but I was mindful that we have very limited pannier space.

We detoured via Northernhay St to visit my old house and passed by the Cathedral.  We were on cooking duty so popped into Tescos for supplies for Teriyaki salmon with noodles - a quick dinner given that Graham wanted to be at the Village Hall early to complete preparations for the quiz.

We were on a table with Georgie, Kirsty (who rents the annexe above Georgie’s garage) and Graham’s Uncle Jim and wife, Fiona.  We donated some money towards a bottle of the discounted pub wine and shared our snacks.  It was a well-run quiz and a fun night – we managed third place out of 10 participating tables. Graham was happy with the turnout though disappointed with the low demand for wine after buying lots from Tescos as well as the pub deal on discounted wine as they made way for new stock.

I took advantage of a lift home with Jim as I was still fighting off a cold, whilst everyone else headed to the pub to celebrate a successful evening.
