Victorian Rail Trail Trip - Stage 11
Beechworth to Tallangatta 71 KMs.
Another early start today as it was going to get even hotter in the afternoon and we had a long ride to do.
Yesterday was our last day on the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail and today we left Beechworth on the Beechworth to Yackandanda Rail Trail, BYRT. The BYRT is a new rail trail and is still under construction in sections. The trail out of Beechworth was nice being mostly down hill, the reward for yesterday's climb, but got undulating as it followed the main road to Yackandanda. The last 5 KMs to Yackandanda are being built at the moment, but as it a fast downhill all the way it wasn't a big issue and the traffic was light.
Stopped in Yackandanda for coffee and second breakfast and also picked up some bread rolls for lunch.
The trail out of Yackandanda was really nice, following the Yackandanda Creek through a reserve for 5 KMs. We headed to Kiewa for a lunch stop, we could have gone two KMs further down the road to Tangambalanga but we didn't because I couldn't say Tangambalanga.
After lunch it was 7 KMs , please two extra for a navigation boo boo, to Huon where we joined the High Country Rail Trail, HCRT.
The day was really starting to heat up now and we found a shady bench to have afternoon tea before the final push to Tallangatta, 13 KMs.
Got to the motel to find out that they had over booked and we had been upgraded to a two bedroom apartment with full facilities, win.
