The Freo markets and one final ride
(18 KMs)
Friday 8th November
Fremantle
We awoke to a wet morning - well timed as we had planned a slow start and time for Simon to collect the bike bags from the Post Office. The rain cleared as he left and soon returned with the bags. We then make the short cycle into Fremantle to visit the markets and explore the local area. We stopped first at the E Shed markets opposite the jetty we had departed from yesterday but they were disappointing so we made our way into town to the Original Fremantle markets. We wandered through the different stalls, but there was little of interest. The food stalls looked more appealing as did the fruit and veggies so we decided to come back for lunch.
We stopped at a Swedish cafe for our morning coffee and then explored some of the shops before returning to the markets for a lunch of Chicken and Cheese Borek - which was tasty followed by a punnet of strawberries and a cannoli for dessert.
We decided to visit the WA Maritime Museum but spotted a cycle path heading south that looked appealing now that the sun was out. We followed that for about 7kms till it ran out, then returned for a beer at the Little Creatures Brewery. Too late to visit the Maritime Museum now, we headed back to our Airbnb, giving Simon plenty of time to pack the bike in their bags for our flight home tomorrow.
Job done, we settled down for a final wine and toasted the completion of a fantastic trip, with amazing weather, (mostly) fabulous cycling and incredible views, particularly along the coast. We agreed we wouldn’t have done anything differently - I was more than happy that we had limited our time on the single track Munda Biddi and noted that mountain biking is not my passion. I’d rather stick to more open trails and roads, gravel fine when not pea gravel, but more compact gravel preferred and tarmac best for faster cycling.
