Bussleton - Dunsborough

We woke to a better day, and a leisurely start with a check in at midday in Dunsborough just 28km down the bike path. We headed back to the jetty and picked up the bike path which wound along the coast. We detoured off Broadwater for a coffee stop at Brewalicious which demonstrated that all coffees should be served extra hot. It made for a more leisurely stop as we waited for our coffees to cool.
Back on the track, we followed the coast briefly before returning to highway for a few kilometres. We returned to the coast briefly before reemerging to the main road and the turnoff to Flametree wines where we stopped for a most enjoyable wine tasting. I had deliberately chosen this winery for its Pinot Grigio, which was excellent as were all the wines we tried. So we joined the wine club to purchase two bottles for immediate consumption, two six packs to be posted home and two future wine deliveries.
We returned to the highway bike path and made our way into Dunsborough, where we took some photos of the local sculptures and stopped at Sora Cafe for excellent beef brisket and pulled port toasted sandwiches. It was a short ride into the main shopping area where we stocked up on dinner and breakfast provisions.
Despite our option of an early check in, it was close to 2pm by the time we dropped our panniers off, and headed up the road to Cape Naturaliste to view the lighthouse. It was an undulating ride with occasional vistas of the Geographie Bay.
We had a 30 minute wait for the lighthouse tour so decided to opt for the heritage walk and just make our own way to the lighthouse. The little museum was surprisingly interesting as it provided valuable insights into life as a lighthouse keeper as well as an interesting video of the Carnarvon Castle, a ship that burnt at sea with the survivors drifting for weeks before being washed ashore at Cape Naturaliste.
It was a quicker ride home with the wind behind us and we were soon settled into our comfortable airbnb, with a hot shower and some nominally blue cheese and crackers to enjoy with our Flametree Pinot Grigio
