We woke to rain which was not a good sign. However, we knew It was a relatively short and flat ride to Eugowra. We departed under glowering skies and fortunately the rain held off. The route had more sealed than gravel roads and we made good time.
We found a rock for morning tea though our arrival encouraged the ants to visit so we had to relocate. Soon we were recrossing the Lachlan River into Eugowra where the car awaited.
We were in Forbes in time for lunch, though there were limited options being a public holiday. Fortunately Sylo was open and the burgers were delicious. Once we had checked into the Town and Country Motor Inn, Simon and I walked back into town to follow the sculpture walk. First stop was “Waiting for the Rain”, which originally featured in Sculptures by the Sea. We spotted two dogs, Leroy and Rosa ; and in a small park, we saw the cute couple in “I Welcome you with Love”; “Inside Out”, which channelled Rodin’s “The Thinker” and the “Pyramid”, which symbolised community and friendship.
After a quick stop at Woolworths for breakfast supplies, we continued on through the town centre to the walking path around Lake Forbes. “Eternity” represented that we are all connected on the journey of life, whilst “Shadows on the Landing” encouraged viewers to walk on the landing and look through the keyhole.
The path took us past the Wiradjuri Story Poles which provided information about the Wiradjuri culture and many were decorated with bronze sculptures of native animals. The final sculpture we passed was “Family Matters” which depicted two Indigenous women and a child returning from gathering food.
We crossed the bridge and headed back to the motel with time for a quick shower before meeting Marissa and Eugene to walk back to Sylo for pizza to celebrate the end of our tour.
