It was another cloudy morning with the promise of clearing skies, as we headed to Wilsons Promontory. We parked at Tidal River and planned a walking route that would allow us to cover a few highlights including Squeaky Beach, named by Tourism Australia as Australia’s best beach for 2024.
We crossed Tidal River and climbed above Norman Beach which was busy with people waiting for the boat cruise and groups of school kids. Further on we stopped for morning coffee at Pillar Point overlooking the bay and towards the Glennie Group islands. We chatted to a few other walkers who were staying in the park and recommended the campground.
Squeaky Beach was stunning and worthy of its award. The water was a glorious array of blues and the sand a brilliant white. We retraced our steps back to the main trail and started the climb up the Tidal Overlook track before finding a perfect lunch spot.
As we neared the end of the circuit we took the link track to Lilly Pilly Gully and walked the easy track through rainforest to the boardwalk which meandered through a fern gully. Simon returned the same way whilst I took the hillier circuit track which had views across to the beach.
It was a short walk back to Tidal River where we did a quick circuit of the campsite to determine the best location for a campsite. We liked avenue 34 or surrounds, away from the main road and school camping area. With a detour via the general store for an ice cream we returned to the car with promises to return for a longer stay.
