Our host offered an extension of time to checkout but unfortunately we had places to go. We picked up some vegetarian tarts for dinner from Olive at Loch and headed towards Mount Worth State Park.
We detoured into Drouin for an excellent coffee at the 3618 Espresso Bar. Unfortunately it was served in a takeaway cup otherwise we would have voted it best coffee yet. Drouin was very busy and clearly a commercial hub.
The road to Mount Worth was quiet as was the parking area when we arrived. After checking the information board, we elected to do the 8.5km Moonlight circuit. It was described as a more challenging, longer walk through regenerating forest and wet fern gullies.
The reality turned out to be a rather tedious walk along a barely discernible path along Moonlight Creek followed by a climb up a ridiculously steep link track before picking up the more pleasant Moonlight Divide track back to the picnic area. The highlight was a little waterfall that we only found by taking the wrong track at the junction with the Link track.
There were a number of signs marking the sites of former timber mills, however nothing remained. Back at the picnic area we enjoyed a cup of tea and a cookie before continuing onto Traralgon.
