The taxi was a little early, which was fortunate as the driver took a rather convoluted route to the M8. We assumed that he was trying to avoid traffic lights with potential red light cameras and he certainly kept within the speed limit at all times. Check in was very painless, we didn’t even have to take out bikes off the trolleys to be weighed and were just sent directly to oversize baggage with appropriate tags attached. Even our pannier bag went through the oversize route so we didn’t have to retrace our steps.
The flight was full and on time and we didn’t have too long to wait for our bikes. We did note that the Everglades tour we had planned was offering a discount and we memorised the code.
A maxi cab appeared and we were soon en route to our accommodation in Alexandra Headland. We decided to head out for dinner and buy some breakfast supplies on the way as the Airbnb didn’t even have any milk. The little grocery store on the main street had the basics, but we promised ourselves a bigger shop tomorrow.
Dinner at Cicchetti lived up to its 4.9 star google rating. We opted for the six course “Feed Me” menu and it was a wise choice as we tried dishes we would never have ordered. Simon was pleasantly surprised by the stuffed olives and pork belly whilst we both agreed that the stuffed calamari and lamb rump were particularly good. The final dishes were delicious truffle fries and onions stuffed with braised beef cheeks. We chatted to one of the owners who advised that they had only been open a few months and both she and her husband were still working their day jobs. Given that the restaurant was full on a Thursday night, they seem to have created a winning formula of Italian-style tapas.
