We had time for a coffee before boarding the ferry which was almost empty. Another couple boarded at French Island, explaining that they had caught the first ferry over and done a quick ride before heading back. We agreed we would like to return and explore French Island sometime.
The rain started soon after we disembarked but didn’t last as long, nor was it as persistent as our ride over. At least we were relatively dry as we stopped for early lunch at the bakery in Bittern – and followed Andrew’s advice to try the excellent pies.
We stuck to the sealed roads this time, avoiding Foxeys Rd, and were soon back at Dromana where we stopped to admire the view before returning to Julie and Andrew’s house for a BBQ dinner.
We had booked lunch at the Avani Restaurant, located in the winery of the same name, based on the recommendation of the restauranteur at Loch and Key.
The restaurant overlooked the vineyard and served the most amazing Indian-inspired food. We all enjoyed our dishes made with native ingredients and local produce. The grilled octopus was exceptional as was the smashed cucumber salad.
Simon and I headed off after lunch to spend the night at an Airbnb in Benalla. It was a pretty drive and traffic was light.
