We relished the extra hour as the clocks adjusted for the end of daylight savings. Inevitably there were a few hills leaving Cowra and we passed more trees with plaques along the road. These serve as living memorials, honoring both military history and international friendship with Japan. We made quick time on the sealed roads before turning off to take a slightly different route back to Billimari where we stopped again for morning tea.
We passed an emu farm and vineyards, travelling on quiet dirt roads to Gooloogong. We hoped to find a nice spot on the Lachlan River for a late lunch. We were disappointed to find that fencing barred access to the river so found some shade and settled on the prickly grass. A short distance on we found the perfect spot as we recrossed the river – so note for next time.
It was a nice downhill ride into Gooloogong and as instructed I messaged the proprietress. She came quickly with her two daughters and let us into the closed pub. She kindly allowed us to buy a round of drinks before showing us to our rooms and the common area. Once showered, we settled on the large balcony for some drinks and dinner.
