Beautiful bridges

We had a quick look at the Two Galah gallery before passing the brightly coloured cow near the Toolgoolawah station. It was nice to have bridges to cross rather than making the steep climb in and out of the gullies. 

The Brisbane Valley Roasters on the outskirts of Esk had a prime position on the rail trail and was a definite winner for our morning coffee. We also took the chance to restock our coffee supplies.  Knowing there were no other towns along the way, we opted for an early lunch.

The path through Esk was paved and the old station was well kept.  A series of mosaic totems were situated around the park as part of the Esk Mosaic trail.  

Leaving town we passed a menagerie of animals with goats, pigs, ducks, sheep, a donkey, chickens and Guinea fowl.  We disturbed a cat on the path which sprinted towards the safety of the animal group.  

Some of the gullies were particularly steep and we appreciated the bridge crossings.  After a slow climb up to Mount Hallen, we made good time on the descent and were soon in Coominya.  

Given that we had a fully equipped kitchen, we headed to the supermarket for dinner supplies.  However, pickings were slim, with the only vegetables being onions and potatoes and no meat or chicken to be found. The pub looked much more appealing.  It was trivia night, with most tables reserved.  Rather than sit outside in the cold, we found a table in between the bar and the poker machines. Our meals arrived quickly, with the cook explaining that our lasagne was fresh out of the oven and hadn’t had time to settle.   

We tried to tune into the trivia questions, but they were frequently drowned out by the dinging of the poker machines.  Once we had eaten our meals, we adjourned outside to finish our drinks.
